Co-founder of Bungie, Jason Jones, and Margaret Stohl, narrative director of Destiny 2, have recently launched a new transmedia studio named Stone Kite.

Jason Jones is known for co-creating the Halo and Destiny franchises, while Margaret Stohl has worked on various video games and co-founded 7 Studios with Lewis Paterson, which was later acquired by Activision. Stohl now serves as the CEO of Stone Kite and is also the author of the popular Beautiful Creatures series.

Stone Kite, based in Los Angeles, is described as a “world-building studio” and is introducing its first intellectual property, One Zero One, which is based on an original manuscript by Jason Jones.

One Zero One focuses on a global conflict between humanity and a rebellious army of AI-driven robotic soldiers and will debut as a four-part comic book series. The initial issues will be available online for free in early 2027, with additional media projects to follow.

Among the founding members of Stone Kite are former media SVP Stephen Wacker, president Lewis Peterson, film and TV VP Matt Johnson, and narrative creative director Jeanine Schaefer.

Stone Kite is collaborating with over 250 creators from various sectors of the entertainment industry, including director and producer Jay Roach, comic book writer and artist Christian Ward, illustrator Kyle Lambert, author Stephen Graham Jones, and screenwriter Akela Cooper.

Regarding the studio’s approach, Margaret Stohl stated, “I’ve spent my career immersed in creating content across different mediums, and I understand the impact of the initial storytelling medium on the overall narrative. Stone Kite aims to break down traditional media barriers by involving top creators from diverse fields right from the beginning to collectively shape the world we create.”

Jason Jones added, “In my younger days, I used to bike long distances to North Chicago’s used bookstores, filling my backpack with sci-fi paperbacks. Margie was the first person to encourage me to write my own book, the first to read it, and the one I trusted to help turn it into epic entertainment that leaves a lasting impact on the world.”
