Over the past weekend, a new champion emerged in the world of Tekken at the Esports World Cup 2026. Esports Charts and Hellcase analyzed the tournament’s outcomes, with the event setting a new record for Peak Viewers in the series.
Insights into EWC 2026 x Tekken Viewership
The Tekken competition gathered more than 1.34 million Hours Watched, matching last year’s Esports World Cup figures. It also became the most-watched Tekken event of 2026, narrowly surpassing the Tekken World Tour Finals 2025 held in January.
Additionally, the EWC Tekken tournament saw a 14.4% increase in peak viewership compared to the previous year, reaching a peak of 114.1K viewers — the highest ever recorded for a Tekken event at the Esports World Cup.

One of the tournament’s most memorable matches was the semifinal showdown between Khawaja Muhammad “M. Zubair” Zubair and Arslan “Arslan Ash” Siddique, which ended with a narrow 5:4 victory for M. Zubair.
M. Zubair emerged as a breakout star of the tournament, showcasing an impressive Cinderella story. The relatively unknown player secured his spot through the Last Chance Qualifier and went on to defeat Lim “ULSAN” Soo-hoon, the reigning Esports World Cup champion, in the group stage opener.
He then went on to defeat Arslan Ash, a formidable player from his country, multiple times before sweeping Yoon “LowHigh” Sun-woong, the runner-up of Esports World Cup 2025, in a 5:0 victory in the grand final.

Esports World Cup 2026 highlighted an intriguing trend: players from the MENA region are emerging as strong contenders in Tekken. However, at EWC 2026, the top eight featured three players from Pakistan and one from Saudi Arabia.
EWC 2026 x Tekken Results
M. Zubair claimed a $250,000 prize for his victory at the tournament, marking the largest win of his Tekken career. The title also granted him a spot at the Tekken World Tour Finals 2026. His victory is considered one of the major upsets of Esports World Cup 2026, as M. Zubair had never won a tournament before.
Furthermore, M. Zubair’s journey to the main stage of Esports World Cup 2026 through the Last Chance Qualifier, rather than a direct invitation, earned him the prestigious Jafonso Award and an additional $50,000.
The award, named after João “Jafonso” Vasconcelos, a Portuguese EA Sports FC player who also went from the LCQ to the championship title in 2024, is a tribute to this rare achievement. The EWC organizers commemorate this feat by adding a special mark to the permanent EWC Totem at the venue.
During the tournament in Paris, M. Zubair represented All Gamers. His win in the Tekken category also contributed 1,000 points to the organization’s Club Championship standings. With five weeks of competition completed, All Gamers currently lead the leaderboard with 3,350 points.
