Critics are not holding back on their opinions about the latest Star Fox game.
Nintendo has unveiled a new installment in the Star Fox series after a long hiatus, set to release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25th. Drawing inspiration from the beloved Star Fox 64 game, the gameplay remains familiar, but the visual redesign is causing quite a stir.
Fans have been quick to criticize the new look of iconic characters like Star Fox and Falco, likening them to unenthusiastic retail workers yearning for teenage attention. The online community, especially Super Smash Bros. enthusiasts, has been mercilessly mocking these unattractive character designs.

The debate over the “realistic” approach taken in the character designs has sparked controversy. While some suggest that Japanese fans appreciate “realistic furries,” the main bone of contention is the unattractive nature of the characters.
“I Prefer the Movie Version”
Takaya Imamura, the original designer of the Star Fox characters from the ’90s, has also voiced his dissatisfaction with the new designs.
Imamura expressed a preference for a style more akin to Fox McCloud in the Super Mario Galaxy movie rather than the current iteration. Despite his delight in seeing the Star Fox legacy persist, he remains critical of the art direction.
While acknowledging the positive direction of the new game, Imamura’s sentiments resonate with many who find the eerily human-like visages of Fox and Falco unsettling.
Nintendo’s promise of additional cutscenes featuring these revamped character designs has only fueled further speculation and discussion.
