Counter-Strike 2‘s most recent update introduces the highly-anticipated Animgraph 2.0, a feature that significantly improves movement animations.
Valve released the patch in late April 20th, causing a widespread online reception.
Animgraph update in CS2
The update hinted at a significant improvement in movement animations, offering clearer and more precise visuals of player models in real-time. Additionally, the movement now better indicates the direction a player is moving, aiding allies in rotations and helping enemies adjust their aim accordingly.
The visual aspect also affects the animations’ stances. CS2 originally featured more closed-in stances, while Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and the new Animgraph 2.0 display stances closer to each other, with wider body positions that refine hitbox accuracy.
The update has been implemented with the latest CS2 update. While some bugs persist, such as burst-fire weapons shooting rounds simultaneously, these issues are expected to be resolved. The primary beneficiary of these movement enhancements appears to be AWPers.
Furthermore, the update diminishes peeking advantages as the player’s camera no longer extends beyond the body’s visibility. The broader stance exposes the player’s legs, necessitating a return to CS:GO tactics of using flashbangs for precise information gathering.
These changes particularly reward anchoring style AWPers, emphasizing strategic positioning and holding key sites effectively.
Why AWPing needed this
In recent years, AWP players have faced challenges. A patch early in CS2’s release reduced the AWP magazine capacity from 10 to 5 rounds, imposing pressure on players to avoid missed shots.
Subsequently, a reload update in CS2 penalized players for reloading with rounds remaining in the magazine, further complicating AWP usage and maintenance.
These changes combined to make AWP economics more demanding.
An update that enhances AWP accuracy alleviates these difficulties, rewarding players skilled in targeting opponents, especially with Animgraph’s improved stances.
This enhancement facilitates hitting crucial hitboxes and achieving essential one-shot kills more effectively.
Improved accuracy reduces the likelihood of missed shots, easing the pressure caused by magazine and reload changes. Aggressive AWP players in the current professional scene are expected to benefit significantly.
Players like Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, David “Broky” Bročko, and others may outshine riflers without burdening teammates like Danil “donk” Kryshkovets and Robin “ropz” Kool, as fraggers may have less pressure to perform their roles.
These developments present an exciting opportunity for CS2 players, promoting improved information gathering and aggressive aiming.
