NEXUS has unveiled the brand identity and teaser video for Frost Kingdom, its debut self-published strategy game.
Described as a medieval strategy simulation game (SLG), Frost Kingdom merges traditional strategy mechanics with merge gameplay. The game is set to launch on iOS, Android, and PC, with a global version incorporating blockchain integration. Pre-registration is currently open on the official website, offering tiered rewards such as heroes and skins based on the total number of registrations.
Frost Kingdom is hailed by NEXUS as the ‘World’s First Web3 SLG’. This genre typically focuses on resource production, territory expansion, alliance competition, and large-scale player-versus-player (PvP) battles. NEXUS sees blockchain integration as a natural fit for SLGs due to their ties to in-game economies, tokens, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and on-chain assets.
The game will feature over 100 unit types and a hero progression system divided into four grades. Players can progress faster by combining buildings and troops through merge mechanics instead of the traditional growth system.
Henry Chang, CEO of NEXUS, stated: “While MMORPGs have found success in the blockchain realm with their economic structures, SLGs offer even more intricate systems that can benefit greatly from blockchain technology.
“Frost Kingdom will pioneer AI agent-based automated game operations. It serves as a groundbreaking example of blockchain enhancing revenue while enabling a small team to efficiently manage a large-scale game.”
NEXUS steps into self-publishing
Frost Kingdom represents NEXUS’ inaugural venture into self-publishing, with plans to run the game on both mobile and PC platforms. This move coincides with blockchain gaming companies exploring ways to integrate Web3 technology into traditional game genres. However, concerns around monetization, asset ownership, and long-term sustainability have led to skepticism from players regarding blockchain games.
By emphasizing Frost Kingdom as a strategy-focused title, NEXUS aims to blend blockchain elements with a genre already centered on player economies and long-term progression. Further details regarding Frost Kingdom’s release date, blockchain features, and esports or competitive strategies have yet to be revealed.
