“This is exactly how CoD should be”—of all games, Black Ops 7 is currently proving that many fans are completely fed up with all that wall-running nonsense

Call of Duty’s most recent venture in Season 4 indicates that perhaps some things were indeed better in the past.

CoD Black Ops 7 has recently unveiled a new “Classic” mode. This mode aims to recapture the essence of earlier games in the series from the 2010s and earlier by eliminating some of the newer features, especially in terms of movement.

This significant shift in direction has been positively received, highlighting that many players are not particularly fond of the exaggerated acrobatics in CoD.

What type of mode is this?

Black Ops 7’s Classic Mode has been integrated into the game since the Season 4 update. It simplifies movement mechanics to the bare minimum and eliminates Omnimovement (the ability to sprint in all directions).

No more wall jumps or sliding. The loadout choices have also been streamlined. As a result, Black Ops 7 now resembles the gameplay of Black Ops 2 from years past.

What are fans saying?

Many players are extremely impressed with Classic Mode and are already advocating on social media for its permanent inclusion in the game.

Accompanying a clip from the mode labeled “Simple Call of Duty is the best Call of Duty” by Faze player Scope, comments such as the following are stacking up:

  • “It’s truly great to see no one sliding all over the place.”
  • “Finally, no more sliding—I’m completely on board.”

Streamer Tdawg comments: “This is the ideal CoD experience. This is how Black Ops 7 should have been from the outset.” He insists that this mode should be made permanent.

What is the situation in MW4?

Some players even believe that this simplified, basic version of CoD should also be incorporated into the upcoming MW4.

While Modern Warfare 4 will eliminate Black Ops 7’s Omnimovement, it will still emphasize swift movements, sliding, and parkour-style climbing systems, as evidenced below:

The ironic twist of the scenario

There is a certain irony in the fact that Black Ops 7, a game that heavily features diving, sliding, and other acrobatic moves, is now being praised as a representation of straightforward and grounded CoD movement. The game’s marketing campaign had heavily relied on these very features.

Evidently, there is a growing segment of players who prefer the more traditional approach. In the 2000s and 2010s, strategic positioning was clearly the focal point in CoD.

Since then, the shooter series has shifted between increasingly fast and flashy movement mechanics like wall-running, diving, and the like, and more realistic gameplay, as seen in the 2019 MW reboot.
