Riot Games has issued a formal apology to Karmine Corp and Kang ‘Kyeahoo’ Yea-hoo after an inappropriate chat message was displayed on the official League of Legends broadcast during KC’s match against Team Heretics.

The Broadcast Incident sparked backlash within the Esports community, with fans questioning how the message made it onto the live feed while Karmine Corp was making their return to LEC action after a brief hiatus.

Details of the incident

As reported by Sheep Esports, the incident occurred during the April 12 LEC 2026 Spring Split series between Team Heretics and Karmine Corp.

The offensive comment directed at Kyeahoo was shown on stream, prompting the broadcast to quickly cut away from it.

According to Sheep Esports, the message originated from an observer chat line rather than player communication, which is why it resonated strongly with fans. Casters Robert ‘Dagda’ Price and Aaron ‘Medic’ Chamberlain reportedly distanced themselves from the message immediately on air, while Karmine Corp CEO Kamel ‘Kameto’ Kebir criticized the error during the live stream.

The timing of the incident was also significant. KC had just returned to the stage and secured a 2-0 victory over Heretics, continuing their impressive form displayed earlier this year in the LEC Versus 2026 final against G2 Esports.

A recurring issue in League of Legends esports

This incident is not an isolated one in the esports scene.

Broadcast professionalism has been a recurring concern in high-level League of Legends and broader Esports productions, particularly when live tools showcase messages or assets that require strict editorial oversight.

This incident gained rapid attention due to the existing scrutiny surrounding standards and conduct within the ecosystem, as evident in broader discussions regarding discrimination issues in EMEA LoL esports and in other organizations’ responses to online abuse, such as Fnatic’s actions against abusive behavior.

Riot’s apology

Riot Games, through the official LEC account, publicly apologized shortly after the incident.

In a statement referenced by Sheep Esports and echoed on social media, Riot acknowledged that an inappropriate chat message was mistakenly shown during the LEC broadcast and expressed regret for the error.

Riot also expressed apologies to Karmine Corp, Kyeahoo, and fans for the mistake and assured that steps had been taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

According to reports and public statements on X, Medic also addressed the issue, stating that the message did not reflect his views in any way.

As of the current moment, Riot has not disclosed any further disciplinary actions beyond the initial statement.

The immediate question now is whether Riot Games will implement visible production changes before the next major League of Legends broadcast involving Karmine Corp and Kyeahoo.
