What is the Overwatch World Cup?
The Overwatch World Cup is an annual, international esports tournament hosted by Blizzard Entertainment where teams of players represent their home countries rather than professional esports organizations. It is one of the most prominent national-level events in competitive Overwatch 2.
Unlike the standard competitive circuit, i.e., the Overwatch Champions Series, which features sponsored, international pro teams, the World Cup features all-star rosters selected to represent individual nations. It often celebrates the global community, allowing fans to vote for national committees that help select the players and coaching staff.
The World Cup spans several months. It begins with online regional qualifiers (such as the Americas, EMEA, and Asia brackets) and culminates in a major live LAN event for the championship.
