The Future of God of War: Exciting Updates Revealed at SDCC Panel
At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, the highly-anticipated God of War Laufey panel made waves with some major announcements that have left fans buzzing with excitement.
Release Date Revealed
One of the biggest revelations from the panel was the official release date for God of War Laufey. Previously rumored to be launching in early 2027, fans will be delighted to know that the game is now set to debut on February 16, 2027, exclusively on PlayStation 5.
A New Game in Development
But that’s not all. Fans of the series will be thrilled to learn that another game featuring Kratos as the protagonist is currently in development. Cory Barlog, the man behind the God of War series, confirmed that this new game will directly connect to God of War Laufey, expanding the rich universe that fans have come to love.
In a statement during the panel, Barlog hinted at the interconnectedness of the games, saying, “Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next. Phranque has been around since the beginning. It’s interesting to see how to build this world out. Everything in the game is setting up for something so amazing.”
A Peek Behind the Scenes
Actor Jack Quaid, who voices the character Phranque in the game, shared his excitement at joining the cast and shed some light on his character. He said, “I’m on a Zoom with Cory and Ariel, and they told me I’m gonna be a cube. I’m like, ‘Okay!’ When they say jump, I ask how high. I’m a very anxious person and I’m always thinking about the future, it’s nice to play a character in the moment. He sees hope in Faye. Phranque is very much an innocent, and there is something where I bring that out of Faye as well.”
What’s Next?
With less than seven months to go until the release of God of War Laufey, fans can expect more details and teasers to be shared by Santa Monica Studio in the coming months. And with other highly-anticipated games like Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable, and METRO 2039 also set to release around the same time, February 2027 is shaping up to be an epic month for gamers.
