Good news alert! Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity is on the lookout for a new Gamer-in-Residence staff member. The position offers a salary of £24,500 per year on a one-year contract. This new role is being advertised by a team member who was hired in 2024 and is now looking to expand the department as he manages activities around the hospital.
The Gamer-in-Residence role will be dedicated to organizing gaming sessions and play activities for over 500 children and young people treated at the hospital daily. Responsibilities include running gaming sessions and hospital events, creating positive experiences for children and families during challenging times, and bringing new ideas for hospital play activities, such as regular gaming, AR, or VR sessions across different gaming consoles.
For the past 25 years, the charity has been supporting children and families at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.
Gaming has always been linked to helping young people with their healthcare journey. Organizations like the Make-a-Wish Foundation and SpecialEffect have long been involved in using gaming and esports to support patients, including those with disabilities.
Gaming is accessible to everyone, whether they are well or unwell. A care worker setting up video games for children is a heartwarming piece of news that we all need today.
The job posting has been taken down from LinkedIn, indicating a high level of interest. Hopefully, this role will be a dream job for someone in the next 12 months, with the possibility of an extension in the future.
