Reports indicate that Fnatic, a UK-based esports organization, is currently in talks with two football clubs regarding a potential buyout. One of these clubs is believed to be based in Germany.

This information comes from Spanish podcaster Allio, who suggests that Fnatic is considering selling a portion of its ownership to these football organizations. French esports businessman Varizan has also commented on the rumors, providing additional insights into the situation.

Recent Developments in Fnatic’s Potential Buyout

Rumors suggest that Fnatic is in discussions with at least one German-based football club and another unnamed club regarding a possible buyout. The organization is reportedly seeking a valuation of approximately US$100 million, despite challenging market conditions.

Fnatic currently operates five major teams, with its LEC and VCT teams being the most prominent within Riot’s ecosystem. Additionally, the organization boasts a Rainbow Six team, as well as CS2 and Apex Legends rosters. With a substantial following on various platforms, including X, Instagram, and YouTube, Fnatic’s Valorant content on YouTube plays a significant role in its content strategy.

Recent transactions involving Karmine Corp and Team Heretics indicate that an LEC team slot alone could be valued at around 30 million euros. Comments from Caedrel regarding franchise slot purchases with Los Ratones suggest a value closer to 20 million euros. Team Falcons has also hinted at potential drops in LEC franchise slot valuations to around 12 million euros, making it challenging to assess Fnatic’s overall valuation given the rumored asking price.

Given the current climate in the esports industry, it makes sense for Fnatic to explore selling shares and ownership percentages. The influx of private equity and VC funding that once fueled the industry in the mid to late 2010s has significantly declined post-COVID, resulting in fewer profitable organizations and decreased external investment.

To drive revenue growth, Fnatic has launched Stash’d, a CS case opening site, which has faced criticism and backlash for its association with gambling products and lack of consumer protection.

While there is no official confirmation at this time, Fnatic’s UK Companies House listings have not been updated since October 16th, with no recent filing history available. As more information becomes available, we will continue to monitor and update the situation accordingly.
