The Unbreakable iMac: A Bulletproof Machine?
When Apple introduced its unibody aluminum hardware, it set a new standard for durability in its products. Little did we know that the iMac would prove to be so robust that it could withstand bullets. In a strange turn of events, a user attempted to destroy the HDD of Apple’s All-In-One by shooting it, only to find that the drive remained intact, as revealed in a teardown.
An Unconventional Method
While using a hammer or drill would have been a simpler way to destroy the iMac, Redditor “u/Affectionate_Emu_675” demonstrated a unique approach to protecting sensitive data. The images shared by the user showcase an older machine that defies all odds in terms of durability. Despite multiple bullet holes on the front glass and numerous bulges on the rear shell, the motherboard and 500GB hard disk inside the iMac remained unscathed.
The Remarkable Resilience of the iMac
Upon closer inspection of the images, it is evident that the HDD showed no signs of damage, leading to humorous speculations from other Redditors about the contents of the hard drive that prompted the shooting incident. The combination of the unibody aluminum chassis and a multi-layered design contributed to the machine’s exceptional durability. The display glass and internal flex provided additional protection, allowing the iMac to withstand small-caliber bullets.
Not Your Average Data Wipe
While there is no official confirmation as to why the iMac was shot, it sparked debates among commenters, with some suggesting that the original owner simply wanted to hone their shooting skills. Regardless, this incident serves as a compelling reminder that shooting a computer is not the most effective way to destroy a hard drive. Nevertheless, it showcases the impressive toughness of Apple’s products.
Testament to Apple’s Durability
Other examples, such as a MacBook Pro surviving a fall from a 25-foot staircase with minor damage or an accidental run-over incident where the machine remained intact, further highlight Apple’s commitment to producing durable products that can withstand unexpected challenges.
