Alberta’s legal betting industry has gained another major player, as Betway Canada, owned by Super Group, has entered the province’s regulated iGaming market alongside more than 30 other active platforms. While this move is significant for esports enthusiasts, it’s important to note that Betway’s offerings in Alberta do not currently include esports betting.
The addition of Betway Canada and Golden Tiger Casino by Apollo Entertainment was reported by CasinoBeats on September 30, 2026. This announcement highlights the expansion of sportsbook and casino products in the province, but does not specifically mention esports markets.
A new market, already full of players
Alberta’s competitive iGaming market was launched on July 13, 2026, making it the second Canadian province after Ontario to establish a regulated framework. The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) regulates the sector, with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) overseeing the new operating sites and maintaining the list of platforms.
Betway now joins a lineup that includes FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, bet365, and Caesars, among others. While Stake is close to obtaining an Alberta license, it has not yet been approved as an active platform.
The roster has a few different status screens
Betway’s entry into Alberta comes shortly after the market opened to competing operators, offering both betting and casino options under one brand. Super Group, the parent company of Betway, also operates in Ontario. Although Spin Casino was registered in Alberta by Super Group, it was not listed as an active platform at the time of the announcement.
While the presence of a sportsbook is notable, it does not indicate the specific sports or competitions offered by Betway in Alberta. The focus should be on the expanded choices available to players, rather than assuming a confirmed esports betting menu.
More competition, with esports still a question mark
With over 30 active platforms in the market, differentiation is crucial for operators like Betway. The goal is to provide customers with regulated options while distinguishing authorized platforms from offshore services. While Alberta’s esports betting market is growing, it’s essential to await official platform listings or announcements for specific details on offerings.
