Wildcard’s PGL Singapore Major hopes slip after 5th-6th finish at FOX Legacy

Wildcard’s path to the PGL Singapore Major has become narrower following their 5th-6th place finish at FOX Legacy Season 1 in Portugal. According to Dust2.us, their chances of qualifying dropped from 39% to 24% after the conclusion of the tournament, as calculated by Mischief.

The setback occurred early on. Wildcard began the playoffs in the upper bracket against Nice Try, ranked 115th in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS), and suffered a defeat. This loss pushed them into the lower bracket, where they managed to defeat EAC to stay in contention. However, INFINITE ultimately eliminated them with a 2-0 victory, resulting in Wildcard finishing with a 1-2 series record for the event.

Loss to Nice Try Halts FML 2026 Momentum

This defeat is particularly stinging considering Wildcard’s strong performance a few weeks ago. Their second-place finish at iBUYPOWER Masters FML 2026, where they were only bested by champions Liquid, had positioned the team well in the Major race. FOX Legacy Season 1 marked the first of three LAN events on their schedule following FML 2026, leaving them with two more opportunities to make up for the stumble.

The blow of losing to a team significantly lower in the VRS rankings cannot be understated. Ranking points carry significant weight in the Major qualification process, and a loss to a team outside the top 100 provides little buffer when recalculating projections.

FRAG University and FiRe Last Chance Crucial

Wildcard’s focus now shifts to FRAG University and FiRe Last Chance. According to Dust2.us projections, securing a top-eight finish at both events would increase their chances of making it to Singapore to 55%, still leaving the outcome finely balanced.

A decisive victory would significantly alter the equation. Winning at FRAG University is estimated to boost Wildcard’s chances to 74%. However, claiming the title at FiRe Last Chance holds even more significance, with a projected 89% chance of reaching the Major, as the event features a tougher competition than FRAG. In essence, a deep run at FiRe holds more value for the team than a victory at FRAG.

Wildcard remains in the running for a Major spot. However, as they head into FRAG University, they will need to focus on delivering results rather than relying on external help, with their current Major odds standing at 24% after their recent outing in Portugal.
