The European qualifier for the League of Legends
Esports World Cup 2026 began on April 28, demonstrating a rare balance in audience distribution between English- and French-speaking viewers, who collectively made up nearly 80% of the viewership.
Highlights from LoL EMEA Qualifier Matches and Viewership
The most-watched match of the day was the French showdown between Team Vitality and Solary. This matchup held significance as the teams belong to different European circuits, making their encounters outside of special events quite uncommon. The match reached over 88,000 concurrent viewers, which was about 3,000 more than Fnatic vs. Shifters.
Notably, English- and French-speaking audiences collectively made up almost 80% of the total viewership on the first day, with both groups contributing nearly identical watch time figures. Average and peak concurrent viewership numbers were also closely matched, hovering around 28,000–29,000 and 45,000–47,000 respectively.
Total viewership across both demographics was almost identical, but the distribution of the audience across channels varied significantly. In the English-speaking segment, over 90% of viewers were concentrated on Marc “Caedrel” Lamont’s channel, while the French audience split their viewership between local esports broadcaster OTP LoL and streamer, as well as Head of League of Legends Esports at Solary, César “Wakz” Hugues.
Advancing Teams in the Esports World Cup 2026 LoL EMEA Qualifier
Fnatic, Natus Vincere, SK Gaming, and Team Vitality progressed to the upper bracket of the playoffs. On April 29, they will compete against the top four teams from the LEC Winter Split for a spot in the upper bracket semifinals. Teams that do not advance will drop down to the lower bracket, where they will face Shifters, Gallions, Team Heretics, and Solary. Only one team from each bracket will secure a place at the Esports World Cup.
The European qualifiers continue on April 29, with G2 Esports, Karmine Corp, Movistar KOI, and GIANTX joining the bracket. Later in the day, the North American qualification slot for EWC 2026 will be determined, as Sentinels and FlyQuest compete for the final spot.
In 2026, the Esports World Cup for League of Legends expanded to 18 teams. Gen.G Esports is currently the only confirmed participant, entering as the winners of the previous edition. Alongside the winners of regional qualifiers from Europe, North America, South America, APAC, Korea, and China, the tournament will also feature the spring split champions from the LPL, LEC, LCS, and LCP, as well as the winner of the 2026 LCK Road to MSI.
