The latest Super Mario Galaxy Movie has exceeded $755 million in worldwide earnings, making it the most successful film of 2026.
Box office data indicates that the movie adaptation of Nintendo’s popular game has raked in over $361 million in the United States alone. Key markets contributing to its success include Mexico with $49.6 million, the UK with $38 million, and Germany with $30 million.
On a global scale, Galaxy has outperformed the previous top-grossing film of 2026, Pegasus 3, which premiered in China earlier in the year. According to Gamespot, the majority of Pegasus 3’s revenue, a staggering 99.8%, came from the Chinese market. Following closely behind Galaxy is Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, with earnings of $575 million.
Overall, the Super Mario animated film series has now surpassed $2 billion in global box office revenue, solidifying its position as the 10th highest-grossing film franchise of all time.
Galaxy made its theatrical debut on April 1 and quickly became the highest-grossing opening in the US for the year.
The film achieved a remarkable $34.5 million in the US on its opening day, surpassing the earnings of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which stood at $31.7 million. Within just five days, Galaxy had amassed $372.6 million worldwide.
The initial Super Mario movie shattered box office records during its opening weekend in 2023, pulling in $204.6 million domestically and $377 million globally.
Nintendo’s upcoming film adaptation, the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, is scheduled for release on May 7, 2027.
Directed by Wes Ball, the movie features British actors Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda. Filming commenced in November 2025.
