~$500
MSI entered the PSU market in 2020, and since then, it has offered some really good designs, featuring the latest standards and exclusive features. The manufacturer offers its line in three segments: the entry-level MAG, the mid-tier MPG, and the enthusiast-grade MEG series.
We previously got a taste of the MEG Ai1600T, MEG Ai1300P, and the MPG A1000G PSU, but this year, MSI unleashed its high-end MPG Ai1600TS series, which goes all-in on the ATX 3.1 standard with premium components and ratings ranging from 1300W up to 1600W.
MSI MPG Ai1600TS 80+ Titanium PSU Specifications
The MSI MPG Power Supplies are high-end offerings from the manufacturer and include 650W and up to 1600W designs. There are several features that these PSUs rock besides the ATX 3.1 and PCIe Gen 5.1 standards. First and foremost, we have to talk about the rated power output.

The MSI MPG Ai1600TS offers 1600W of power. The MPG Ai1600TS offers 1600W of sustained power through its +12V rails at 133.33A. Its voltage is rated between 115-240V (50~60Hz) at 1600W and 100-115V at the 1200W mode. Now the most interesting part about both of these PSUs, besides the ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 compliance, is the GPU Safeguard+ technology, which is designed to protect graphics cards against unwanted damage.
- GPU SAFEGUARD+ Built-in overcurrent protection specific to the 12V-2×6 interface. The MSI CENTER software issues a real-time warning prompting the user to inspect the connection of the 12V-2×6.
- SiC MOSFET The server-grade materials not only enhance the power supply’s stability, but also reduce losses and optimize heat dissipation.
- FAN SAFEGUARD The integrated fan failure protection immediately detects when the fan stops spinning. A buzzer will then sound, alerting you to the problem and preventing the power supply from overheating.
- DUAL COLOR 12V-2×6 CONNECTOR. With its vibrant yellow connector, you can easily see if the cable is fully plugged in, which helps guarantee a secure connection.
- OPTIMIZED THE SOUND LEVEL. This power supply is designed for quiet operation, delivering low noise levels like in the middle of the night, ensuring a serene computing experience free from disturbances.
- EMBOSSED JACKET CABLE The embossed cables are exceptionally flexible for easy routing and cable management, while also offering superior durability and a premium look.
The other most important thing to note here is that this PSU is fully PCIe Gen 5.1 & ATX 3.1 compliant, which means it comes with both a proper PCIe Gen 5.1 connector on the PSU unit and also comes with necessary PCIe Gen 5.1 cables. MSI bundles the MPG PSU series with a 16-pin to 16-pin connector cable (up to 600W). All of these cables are compliant with the PCIe 12V-2×6 standard.
Some protection features that you get on the MSI MPG Ai1600TS PSU include:
- Over Current Protection
- Under Voltage Protection
- Over Power Protection
- Over Temperature Protection
- Over Current Protection
- Short Circuit Protection
- Over Voltage Protection
- No-Load Operation
- Surge and Inrush Protection

As for the design of the PSU unit, it comes in an ATX form factor and measures 150 x 190 x 86 mm. The cooling is provided by a top-mounted 135mm FDB fan. The PSU also comes with a Software Sync port that can be connected to a USB interface for real-time monitoring within the MSI Center application. MSI ships the MPG Ai1600TS with a 10-year warranty and is priced around $500 US.

Some main features of the MSI MPG Ai1600TS PSU include:

MSI MPG Ai1600TS 80+ Titanium PSU Unboxing & Close-Up
The unit we received comes in a large package with the MPG “Gaming” aesthetics, plus a picture of the PSU on the front wrap. The front also lists down several features such as its 80 Plus Titanium Rating, the ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 design, G.I. (Gaming Intelligence) support, SiC caps, and GPU Safeguard+ tech.

The back of the box highlights some main features of the PSU, such as GPU Safeguard+, Dual Native 12V-2×6 connectors, SiC MOSFETs, Dual Colored 12V-2×6 cables, Fan Safeguard tech, Embossed Jacket cables, & 80 Plus Titanium Efficiency.
The back of the unit displays the specs and connectors clearly labeled. One standout feature that returns with upgrades is the dual-color 12V-2×6 connector, now updated to the latest standard. This connector retains the clever decision to color-code cables for easy and proper connectivity.
However, the most significant feature to highlight is GPU Safeguard+. This feature is designed to alert users and prevent any potential damage to graphics cards caused by irregular 16-pin connectors.
The GPU Safeguard+ feature is accessible through MSI Center, MSI Afterburner, and HWiNFO. Afterburner’s new safety algorithm can intelligently detect abnormal 16-pin connector operation and limit power to 75% across all RTX 50 GPUs, not just the flagship RTX 5090s.
For instance, if an abnormal connection is detected while running an RTX 5090 with a default TDP of 575W, the power limit will be scaled down to 75% or 430W. The application will prompt the user to check the connection and recommend changing to a newer cable if the issue persists.
HWINFO’s latest beta version now displays the current of each 12V-2×6 (16-Pin) on MSI’s MPG and MEG AI PSUs and supports abnormal current alerts similar to Afterburner.
Another crucial feature is the built-in buzzer that alerts users for the first three minutes upon detecting an anomaly. Users can set up alarms within Afterburner and HWINFO to receive pop-up warnings and monitor the status of the 12V-2×6 connectors.
The Safeguard+ feature also includes forced protection, where a black screen appears with continued beeping after the initial 3-minute alert to prevent hardware damage. This active protection mechanism constantly monitors for anomalies and triggers safety measures to protect the GPU effectively.
With these advanced features, MSI ensures the protection of GPUs, safeguarding one of the most critical and expensive components in a PC. This proactive approach addresses concerns about 16-pin connectors damaging or causing harm to GPUs, providing users with peace of mind.
