Meta has introduced two game development tools powered by AI, allowing users to create 2D and 3D games using prompts on mobile devices and browsers.

Unveiled during Meta Connect conference, Horizon Create and Horizon Studio leverage the Meta Horizon Engine’s creation capabilities.

Horizon Create is tailored for mobile use, while Horizon Studio is optimized for browsers. The two platforms share a common backend, enabling seamless transfer of assets, systems, and iteration history.

Meta stated, “Traditional game development requires significant time, resources, and expertise. Horizon Create and Horizon Studio aim to eliminate these barriers, simplifying the process of bringing game ideas to life in 2D and 3D formats and facilitating automatic distribution across various Meta platforms upon publication.”

Users can create games by providing text prompts outlining their vision, with the Meta Horizon Engine then generating a playable game that can be directly published on Facebook and Instagram.

According to MobileGamer.biz, selected creators are currently testing the apps with financial backing from the Meta Horizon Creator Fund. Early access will be gradually rolled out, with more information on in-game monetization to come.

Earlier this year, Roblox introduced an AI feature in Roblox Studio that can transform text prompts into game design documents for implementation and testing.

Meta also announced the upcoming launch of VR Glasses during Meta Connect, featuring Unity support from day one.

The VR Glasses, five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3, boast a 5K infinite display built on micro-OLED panels and do not require heavy hardware or straps.

Supported by Unity 6.6 through OpenXR, existing Quest projects can be seamlessly transferred to the new device. Game designers can utilize tools like the XR Interaction (XRI) Toolkit, XR Hands, and XRI Simulator for game development and testing.

Various studios, including Animal Repair Shop, Schell Games, Amata K.K., Nerd Ninjas, Within, Soul Assembly, Marvelous Inc., and Grounding Inc., are already working on titles for VR Glasses using Unity.

Meta’s VR Glasses are set to launch in Spring 2027 with a retail price of $1,299.99.
