Employees at Ubisoft’s Barcelona office are planning to strike in response to potential layoffs that may affect 51 workers.
The strikes are being organized by the Spanish union La Confederación General del Trabajo and are scheduled to occur on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from June 30 to July 17. The information has been shared with local media outlets like Hobby Consolas, as reported by Insider Gaming in English.
The staff is calling for a binding negotiation to secure the retention of the 51 employees and ensure job protection for at least five years to prevent further layoffs. They are also pushing for the implementation of previously agreed promotions that were halted by the company, as well as the option to work from home for 60% of the month to promote work-life balance.
Additionally, the employees are requesting a formal review of the studio’s salary improvement plan and social benefit packages. Ubisoft had announced the layoffs in Barcelona earlier this year, along with the closure of its Winnipeg and Belgrade studios, aiming to refocus the Barcelona studio solely on the Rainbow Six franchise.
This action follows a series of cost-cutting measures at Ubisoft, with the company aiming to save €200 million through its latest round of reductions announced in January.
