Jinggg’s 61 Kills Power Paper Rex Into Shanghai Playoffs

Paper Rex emerged victorious over G2 Esports with a 2-1 win in an intense VALORANT Champions Shanghai series on Tuesday, 29 September. After losing the Split map, Paper Rex bounced back to secure wins on Haven and Lotus, securing their spot in the playoffs.

The match was a high-stakes showdown between two teams vying for advancement in the season-ending tournament. Paper Rex had to mount a comeback after G2 took the first map, then fend off a strong comeback attempt on Haven before ultimately clinching the victory. The result and map scores were reported by ABS-CBN News.

A standout performance in the series came from Wang ‘Jinggg’ Jie. The Paper Rex player led the scoreboard with 61 kills, 48 deaths, and 12 assists, showcasing impressive gameplay with Raze and Phoenix throughout the series.

G2 Takes Early Lead, Paper Rex Responds

G2 secured a 13-9 victory on Split, putting Paper Rex on the back foot. However, Paper Rex fought back on Haven, establishing an 8-4 lead by halftime. Despite G2’s seven-round winning streak, Paper Rex managed to halt their momentum and secure a 13-11 win to even the series.

Lotus saw both teams tied at 6-6 in the first half. Paper Rex then went on to win the map 13-9, completing a remarkable turnaround and transforming a series that initially favored G2 into a playoff-clinching triumph. The close scorelines on each map highlighted the intense competition: G2 needed to capitalize on their Split advantage, while Paper Rex delivered when it mattered most in the final map.

Securing a Playoff Spot in Shanghai

With this victory, Paper Rex now advances to the Champions playoffs after navigating a challenging match that demanded both a comeback and a composed finish. While Jinggg’s impressive performance stood out, it was the team’s resilience after losing Split that defined their success in the series.

This win adds another chapter to Paper Rex’s international journey. Their campaign in Shanghai was one of the key storylines highlighted in Esports News UK’s Champions Shanghai preview, which offered insights into the teams and players to watch at the event.
