As the release of Crimson Desert approaches in less than two weeks, official performance targets for consoles, including the base PS5, have been shared. The game promises a steady 60 FPS in full HD on the base model, but the lack of actual footage of the game on PS5 raises some concerns among players.
There seems to be no existing footage of the game on PS5 for any third-party testers or reviewers before its release, reminiscent of the rocky Cyberpunk 2077 console experience at launch.
While some skepticism may seem exaggerated, the uncertainty surrounding the gameplay of Crimson Desert on the PS5 for most non-Pro owners is a valid concern.
Why Crimson Desert PS5 specs with no hands-on gameplay could raise some eyebrows
Before jumping to conclusions like the doomsayers of Cyberpunk, it’s important to take a more measured approach. Crimson Desert should be playable on the base non-enhanced middle-gen consoles, based on the performance targets shared by Pearl Abyss for the base PS5.
According to the specifications, the game is expected to run at 60fps in native 1080p and 4k-upscaled 1440p at 30fps for its Quality Mode. However, recent findings from Digital Foundry testing the PS5 Pro show some frame rate drops under heavy load.
In certain stress-heavy situations, such as the infamous Bug Hill, even the PS5 Pro’s performance mode drops below 40 frames per second. This raises concerns about how the game will perform on regular PlayStation or Xbox consoles without upgraded hardware.
Additionally, there have been no reports of reviewers trying Crimson Desert on a base PS5 or Xbox Series S due to the key activation server not being online yet. This lack of hands-on experience on unenhanced models adds to the uncertainty.
If the game’s visuals are dialed back for these lesser-powered consoles, it could impact the overall experience. While promotional clips show impressive visuals, it’s possible that the performance on base consoles may not match the advertised standards.
Despite these challenges, it’s important to maintain perspective and avoid jumping to conclusions based on limited information. Crimson Desert is highly anticipated, and fans hope that any potential performance issues will not overshadow its promising features.
