CodeDev launches optimisation division The Performance Guys

CodeDev, a UK co-development company also known as The Unreal Guys, has recently introduced a specialized optimization division called The Performance Guys. This division, consisting solely of engineers and technical artists, is dedicated to handling crucial optimization tasks for projects. They are currently looking to hire senior engineers to join their team.

The Performance Guys division was officially launched last month and has already worked on projects like Mafia: The Old Country by Hangar 13, as well as collaborations with Epic Games, Otherside Entertainment, and an undisclosed AAA title. The company claims that their specialized optimization services can significantly reduce memory usage, with one project seeing up to a 50% decrease in memory usage to meet strict platform requirements.

CEO Myke Parrott explained, “Unreal Engine is a powerful tool, but achieving optimal performance and seamless gameplay requires a specific level of technical expertise that is often overlooked until later stages of development. Our partners frequently requested assistance in this area, prompting us to establish The Performance Guys division.”

CodeDev has developed an internal tool called “Performance Intelligence” to offer more data than Unreal Insights while maintaining user-friendly presentation. This tool can pinpoint the root causes of usage spikes, distinguish between local tasks and waiting periods, and detect incorrect thread executions. The company stated that this tool streamlines the troubleshooting process for developers, allowing them to quickly identify performance bottlenecks.

The company’s current focus is on optimizing performance for Unreal Engine, Unity, and various proprietary technologies in indie, AA, and AAA video games, as well as virtual productions and high-end visualizations.
