Bloober Team, the developer behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, is undergoing a significant leadership expansion as it shifts towards a multi-project structure. Currently, the studio is actively working on two single-player horror games, along with five additional projects in collaboration with other developers.
It has already been announced that Bloober Team is creating a new horror title exclusively for Nintendo platforms. Additionally, they are also working on an original title in partnership with the developers of Kronos: New Dawn.
The studio has welcomed new leaders to its team. Thaine Lyman joins as the head of the studio, bringing with him extensive leadership experience from Activision and Wargaming. Katya Baukova, with senior experience at CD Projekt and Techland, has taken on the role of director of business development. Michał Gembicki, who previously served as the CEO of indie developer Klabater SA, is now the head of publishing at Bloober Team.
With these new appointments in place, CEO Piotr Babieno emphasizes the importance of operating with two core production teams focusing on major releases. The studio aims to strike a balance between ambition and responsibility by working on two key projects simultaneously.
Babieno highlights that the studio’s primary focus remains on creating single-player horror experiences known for their strong gameplay foundations and themes that resonate emotionally or socially. The teams are dedicated to delivering premium quality in their executions.
Aside from their internal projects, Bloober Team’s co-development label, Broken Mirror Games, is actively working on expanding the horror genre with multiple titles in development stages. One of these projects is the highly anticipated Layers of Fear 3.
Babieno stresses the studio’s commitment to meaningful and distinctive experiences over a constant stream of releases. The goal is to create games that leave a lasting impact on players.
As Bloober Team evolves with its new structure, Babieno places a strong emphasis on talent retention and sustainable growth strategies. The studio, consisting of nearly 270 employees from Poland and beyond, values long-term collaboration and creative instincts.
Furthermore, Babieno expresses the studio’s dedication to enhancing Poland’s influence in the game development industry. He praises the country’s creative identity and the willingness of Polish developers to take creative risks in pursuit of meaningful projects.
He reflects on Bloober Team’s journey, starting in 2008, and the studio’s commitment to building its own unique voice in the gaming world. The focus on psychological horror, beginning with Layers of Fear, has been a defining factor for the studio.
Overall, Bloober Team remains steadfast in its mission to create innovative, emotionally resonant gaming experiences while contributing to the thriving landscape of Polish game development.
