Google Play introduces a range of new features for games, focusing on discovery and social aspects. These include a personalized Game Finder, competitive Sprints, and clip-sharing through the Sidekick overlay.
In a blog post by Google Play vice president Sam Bright, the company detailed these updates, noting that the You tab has over 250 million monthly active users and connects more than 700 million gamer profiles.
The Game Finder suggests games based on player preferences, habits, and community feedback, with detailed explanations for each recommendation. Initially launching in the US for English-speaking users, it will expand to other markets soon.
Sprints are short competitive events lasting 48 hours, grouping players of similar skill levels. Sidekick users can now capture and share 30-second clips seamlessly within the game. Sidekick boasts over 285 million users.
Additionally, Quests will offer in-game items like skins and boosters, not just Play Points. Game Playlists allow for curated collections, while PC titles like Dave the Diver and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun are coming to Play with cloud save support across Android and PC.
Game Trials, which enable players to try premium games before purchase, are expanding from mobile to PC. Studios can participate in Game Stats for daily Streaks and access to Leagues and Sprints, as well as Play Games Rewards linking in-game perks to Play Points.
Google’s Apps Experience and Level Up programs offer lower service fees to exceptional titles. For instance, PUBG Mobile, following Level Up guidelines, saw a 22% increase in new installs from high-value players and a 62% rise in spending per engaged buyer. These programs cover various regions, with Korea joining soon.
