Riot Games has announced the return of the GO4LoL events, a significant part of the amateur League of Legends scene in the mid to late 2010s. This news coincides with the growing popularity of League Classic, with Riot promoting the event heavily during MSI, in the client, and at various pro scenes like EWC and regional leagues.
The revival of GO4LoL was revealed during the EU LCS Classic Showmatch at the start of the LEC Summer Split. Alongside this, a new UK and Ireland edition of GO4LoL will be running on League of Legends Classic. Similar events will also be available for other nations and regions.
Understanding GO4LoL
For those unfamiliar with GO4LoL, it was ESL’s weekly community tournament series that took place in the early days of League of Legends. The primary goal was to provide amateur and semi-professional teams with a structured competitive environment to develop their skills. The focus was on nurturing the grassroots scene by offering exclusive rewards, small cash prizes, and the opportunity to qualify for other events.
During its original run, Esports News UK covered the UK GO4 events, which played a significant role in shaping British League of Legends culture alongside games like CS and Siege. While the prizes were modest, these events offered teams valuable experience in a tournament setting with lower stakes compared to professional competitions.
The First UK Classic GO4LoL Event
With the revival of GO4LoL, the first UK and Ireland League Classic tournament is set to take place on Sunday, August 16th, running from 12:00 to 19:00 BST. Registration closes at noon on the same day. Teams can register via Challengermode.
The tournament format includes single elimination, best-of-one matches, and random seeding to ensure a quick and accessible experience. Teams can have up to two non-UK and Ireland players, including substitutes. All players must be 16 or older and residents or citizens of countries within the EMEA region.
Participants are also required to join the UKEL Tournament Discord before the competition begins.
Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers as follows:
- 1st Place: 1x Exclusive Skin (TBC) each
- 2nd Place: 1x of 10 Skins each
- 3rd and 4th Place: 6x Orbs each
- Top 32: 3x Orbs each
- Top 64: 1x Hextech Chest and Key each
The exclusive skin for the first-place team is yet to be confirmed. Prizes will be distributed among the five active players unless teams request otherwise.
