The indie sensation Meccha Chameleon took the gaming world by storm in June, claiming the second spot in PC game revenue, just behind Fortnite, as reported by Newzoo.
Created by indie developers Lemorion_1224 and Hagneiro, the game was released on June 10 and has already sold more than 15 million copies. It also entered Newzoo’s PC engagement charts at number six.
Newzoo’s data shows that Meccha Chameleon’s initial sales surpassed those of Lethal Company, which sold over 10 million units in six months, and Fall Guys, which sold seven million in its first month.
“The rapid commercial success of Meccha Chameleon proves that lower-budget, community-focused multiplayer experiences can achieve significant commercial success alongside major gaming franchises,” stated Newzoo market analyst Mert Şahin.
The life simulation game Paralives outperformed The Sims 4, landing at number seven, while Dead by Daylight climbed 16 spots to claim the tenth position following its tenth anniversary celebrations.
“This showcases how long-standing live-service games can maintain commercial momentum through continuous investment in content and community engagement,” added Şahin.
Newzoo’s June report also included a pre-order ranking, with Grand Theft Auto 6 leading as the top-grossing console title based on five days of pre-orders.
Scheduled for release on November 19, Rockstar’s highly anticipated game generated an estimated $260 million globally from pre-orders alone.
The engagement rankings by Newzoo showed minimal changes across PC and console platforms, with titles like Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2, Minecraft, Roblox, and League of Legends continuing to attract more players than recent releases.
The data firm highlighted that Obsidian’s Grounded jumped over 250 spots to claim the sixteenth position on the console engagement charts after its release on PlayStation Plus.
“This highlights how multi-game subscription services can extend the lifespan of established games by reconnecting them with both new and returning players,” noted Şahin.
