Rockstar Games has recently formed a dedicated team to enhance the realism of NPCs in Grand Theft Auto 6.
According to Rockstar North co-head Aaron Garbut, the team in Los Angeles, consisting of writers, directors, and producers, meticulously crafted these characters by individually art-directing each one of them, as reported by The New York Times.
Garbut emphasized the attention to detail put into every aspect of the game, from the placement of characters in a room to the items they interact with, creating a truly immersive experience.
Describing GTA 6 as a progression from the level of detail achieved in Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson highlighted the evolution in both scale and intricacy.
Nelson explained that the team aimed to replicate the same level of interactive fidelity in a modern setting, as previously achieved in a historical context.
Rockstar revealed that GTA 6 boasts more than 600,000 NPC animations, surpassing the numbers seen in previous games like RDR2 and GTA 5. The map of Vice City in the game is notably larger than Los Santos and features a significantly expanded world compared to RDR2.
In an interview on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Nelson confirmed that GTA 6 will not incorporate generative AI or microtransactions.
The recent preview of the game on Netflix showcased these advancements, providing a glimpse into the extensive interactivity and immersive elements mentioned by Nelson and Garbut, along with insights into the game’s narrative, combat mechanics, and overall gameplay.
Data from Sensor Tower indicates a notable 35% increase in Netflix US mobile viewership during the preview, leading to temporary crashes on both Netflix and Twitch platforms.
