Sportradar has announced a new partnership with Kalshi that could potentially involve integrating live esports streams into its platform.
Within this collaboration, Sportradar will be supplying products and services to Kalshi, which includes the provision of live esports streams sourced through a partnership with Oddin.
Polymarket, a competing platform, already offers its users the ability to watch live esports matches.
CEO of Kalshi, Tarek Mansour, expressed the significance of this partnership, stating, “The scope of this collaboration is what sets it apart. By utilizing official league data for swift trade settlements, we aim to enhance the overall customer experience. Additionally, we are working together on an integrity monitoring initiative to further safeguard our users.”
Legal Scrutiny Does Not Hinder Partnership
Amid allegations that Sportradar generates a large portion of its revenue from supporting unlicensed gambling operators, the company remains undeterred in partnering with Kalshi.
Kalshi itself is currently navigating legal challenges, accused of running an unlicensed sports betting operation. Facing ongoing court cases in over 20 states and recent bans in Brazil and Spain, Kalshi continues to operate amidst these legal obstacles.
Sportradar’s CEO, Carsten Koerl, emphasized the potential of prediction markets to drive growth in the sports industry, asserting, “Our collaboration with Kalshi extends the reach of our premium sports data and services into a rapidly evolving landscape. This partnership fosters cooperation with market makers and the broader industry, emphasizing integrity and compliance.”
Sportradar Emphasizes Regulatory Compliance
In response to accusations of supporting illicit gambling, Sportradar maintains that it exclusively partners with licensed operators, adhering to stringent global compliance standards.
Koerl stressed the importance of prediction market operators holding valid licenses, underlining that the collaboration with Kalshi could pave the way for similar partnerships in the future.
Highlighting their commitment to integrity monitoring, Sportradar and Kalshi plan to intensify their efforts in this area. Kalshi enforces a zero-tolerance policy on insider trading and market manipulation, while Sportradar offers its advanced integrity framework, including AI monitoring, to support Kalshi in maintaining integrity.
Ramped-Up Integrity Monitoring
Sportradar actively monitors for suspicious betting activities through its partners, flagging only a minuscule 0.03% of the 100,000 matches monitored last year as suspicious.
Despite this, the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) have reported instances of match-fixing, though the extent of this issue—whether increasing, decreasing, or simply better detected—remains uncertain.
As part of their partnership, Sportradar and Kalshi aim to enhance integrity monitoring efforts. Kalshi maintains a strict stance against insider trading and market manipulation, while Sportradar brings its robust integrity measures, including AI systems, to support Kalshi in upholding integrity standards amidst the growing popularity of esports markets.
Recent data from Esports Insider indicates a significant volume of $36.18 million across 408 matches on Kalshi last week, with CS2 accounting for $23.7 million (65.6%) across 236 matches.
