The limited narrative and one-dimensional characters in Crimson Desert left many fans questioning why Pearl Abyss did not offer the option for players to craft their own characters for exploring Pywell. While the developer has not addressed this issue or provided the feature, PC players can now personalize their characters using a new mod available for download from Nexus Mods.

“This mod allows you to design your character at the barber shop,” states the mod’s official description. “With 98 face presets and 159 hairstyles, players have a wide range of customization options to create a unique look. The barber is the place to go for character customization.”

Known as the Character Creator mod, it currently offers a female option, with a male option expected to follow soon. This mod alters the barber mechanics and is not compatible with similar mods like Barber Unlocked. Additionally, the Kliff Female Voice mod and JSON Mod Manager are necessary for the character creator to function.

The initial release of the Crimson Desert Character Creator mod marks the beginning of a journey. With plans for a male option and animation enhancements in progress, female characters will soon feel like fitting replacements for Kliff.

Is a Console Release for the Character Creator Possible?

While PC players now have the liberty to design custom characters, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S users are unable to benefit from such mods that enhance visuals with features like grass shadows and improved ray tracing.

Despite this limitation, Pearl Abyss has a proven track record of responsive development, evident in their robust character creation system for Black Desert. With a history of valuing player feedback, there remains hope that official character creation options may be introduced in the future.

Even in the absence of this feature, Crimson Desert remains an open-world adventure worth exploring, offering extensive content and a top-tier combat system that surpasses similar titles.
