Great news for FGC esports enthusiasts: Street Fighter 6 has received a crucial update! And no, we’re not talking about fighter tweaks or gameplay adjustments. That’s all fine and dandy. The real highlight here is that Alex’s controversial storyline has been rectified!
An unexpected bug surfaced with a mid-season patch in March, causing Drive Parry to malfunction in certain situations without proper reversal timing. Capcom acknowledged the issue and promised a fix in a future update. This led to a scheduled maintenance downtime last night.
Now, after the release of the latest patch, Drive Rush has been repaired, along with some fighter balancing. However, one particular line in the patch notes caught our attention: “Some of Alex’s World Tour story text has been adjusted in certain languages.”
Alex’s Backstory Altered in Street Fighter 6

Upon his introduction to the roster, Alex was granted his own World Tour and Arcade Mode, much like other characters. However, his narrative raised eyebrows. It was revealed that Alex had tied the knot with Patricia and was expecting a child with her. Yet, previous dialogues hinted at a familial bond between them, as Patricia was his second cousin who took on a sisterly role.
Yes, quite a peculiar situation…
Capcom has now revised this dialogue to eliminate any potential “confusion” on our part. So, rest assured, the couple is still on track for marriage and parenthood. But let’s be clear: they are not related in any way!
It’s rather amusing how this eerie narrative adjustment has overshadowed gameplay modifications in this competitive fighting game. Nonetheless, it underscores the significance of these characters. Street Fighter has been a staple for decades, originating in arcades. These characters are deeply ingrained in our memories, becoming iconic figures we genuinely care about.
We are emotionally invested in their backgrounds. And their physical prowess as well.
Street Fighter 6 Patch Notes
Universal Changes
Drive Parry
- Resolved an issue where Drive Rush couldn’t be executed immediately after halting an attack with Drive Parry and the block stun wore off. Additionally, adjusted input buffers for Drive Rush in scenarios overlapping with wake-up from a knockdown.
Drive Rush
- Following the previous update, a modification was made to increase buffer input timing by 3 frames on wake-up. However, this inadvertently caused timing discrepancies when opponents executed Drive Rush during specific wake-up frames. To address this, buffer input timing has been reduced by 3 frames to maintain consistency with pre-Alex release settings.
- Fixed an issue with Modern controls where certain mid-air techniques (e.g., Dhalsim’s Yoga Float or Rashid’s Wing Stroke) were interrupted if Drive Rush was activated during screen flash while attempting a jumping attack with Auto+Attack.
Fighter Changes
M. Bison
- Rectified a situation where Psycho Mine would remain lodged in opponents regardless of detonation after executing a Drive Reversal following the block of the 2nd attack from Normal/Overdrive Devil Reverse (with Psycho Mine embedded).
- Addressed an issue where attacks from behind failed to connect under specific circumstances.
JP
- Corrected an anomaly where attack startup was 1 frame faster when canceled from standing medium punch, standing heavy kick, crouching light kick, or crouching medium kick compared to other attacks.
