Worlds 2026 kicks off on October 16 at 3:00 a.m. KST, as four teams inaugurate the League of Legends championship at Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles. The Play-In phase lasts until October 19, with only one team earning a spot in the 16-team Swiss Stage, setting a brisk pace for the opening bracket with no room for error.
The tournament progresses from Play-In to Swiss and then to Knockout, with the Swiss Stage commencing on October 24 in Allen, Texas. This path also presents an opportunity for a regional milestone: LCK teams have dominated with 10 out of the 15 previous World Championships, and another victory would extend the region’s winning streak to five consecutive years since 2022.
Four teams vying for one Swiss Stage ticket
The initial matchups feature North America’s Cloud9 Kia against EMEA’s Karmine Corp. Following that, Brazil’s FURIA will clash with Asia-Pacific representative MVK Esports at 8:00 a.m. KST. Each Play-In series is a best-of-five, and the double-elimination format of the four-team bracket means that a single loss does not signify the end of a team’s journey.
Making their World Championship debut, Karmine Corp comes in as the runner-up in both the LEC Versus season kickoff event and Spring Split. The team’s top and mid lanes boast former LCK players Canna (Kim Chang-dong) and kyeahoo (Kang Ye-hoo); Cloud9 Kia’s equivalents are Thanatos (Park Seung-gyu) and Loki (Lee Sang-min).

Cloud9 Kia secured their spot after topping the LCS Spring Regular Season with a flawless 7-0 record, then qualifying with a 3-1 victory over LYON in the Summer Playoffs. FURIA earned their place at MSI in Daejeon as Brazil’s Split 1 champion and now enters as the CBLOL’s No. 2 seed following a second-place finish in Split 2. MVK clinched their spot through championship points after placing third in LCP Split 3.

The LCK’s potential fifth consecutive title
Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, T1, and Dplus KIA commence their Worlds journey in the Swiss Stage on October 24, not in Los Angeles. With 10 titles out of 15 previous editions, the LCK carries a rich legacy to defend; a victory this year would mark five consecutive championships since 2022.
From Texas to the grand finale in New York
In the Swiss Stage, teams progress to the Knockout phase after securing three wins and face elimination after three losses. Most matches are best-of-one, while qualifying and elimination matches are best-of-three. The quarterfinals and semifinals are also set in Allen, with the remaining teams battling it out in best-of-five matches during the Knockout Stage.
The championship culminates at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where the Grand Final will take place on November 15 at 4:00 a.m. KST. This sets the Play-In winner on track to join the 15 teams already in the Swiss field on October 24.
