The 2024 LCK Spring Split featured an intense showdown between Gen.G and T1 on Mar. 9. Surpassing expectations, Gen.G emerged victorious with a 2-0 score, reclaiming their top spot in the standings. Following the match, Bae Hye-ji interviewed the Players of the Games, Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu and Son “Lehends” Si-woo.
Congratulations on the win. This Saturday Showdown was crucial, and you managed to defeat T1 in both rounds, securing the top position once again. How do you feel about this achievement?
Lehends: Winning this match to determine the top team feels amazing. It’s even more satisfying knowing that we’re performing at our best.
Considering the significance of the match, how did you ensure you were in top condition?
Canyon: Managing our condition was crucial for such an important match. I made sure to rest well the night before, and I believe it contributed to our victory.
This victory marks Gen.G’s 7th consecutive win against T1. How does this streak make you feel?
Lehends: It’s satisfying to see that we’re doing well, even though I only contributed to half of those wins. [Laughs] It’s still a good feeling.
In Game 1, T1 picked Jayce and LeBlanc. Were you prepared for this draft?
Canyon: I anticipated Jayce due to recent buffs and Zeus’s proficiency with the champion. However, LeBlanc caught us off guard.
You applied relentless pressure on Jayce early on, allowing K’Sante to secure kills and scale effectively. How did you plan these early ganks?
Canyon: I noticed the opponent’s positioning near their red buff early on, so I decided to recall and gank top. It turned out to be a successful strategy.
T1 opted for Lucian and Nami in both games. What was your primary focus against this bot lane?
Lehends: T1’s bot lane tends to play aggressively, so I dedicated a lot of time to strategizing against them. Although preparing for their picks was challenging due to numerous possibilities.
There were some impressive saves with your Renata Glasc. How did you feel about those moments?
Lehends: I don’t recall specific instances of making those saves. It seemed like Peyz played well, and it appeared as if I made the crucial plays.
Despite Kalista’s nerfs, do you still consider her a viable pick?
Lehends: With Peyz as our AD carry, Kalista remains a strong choice even after the nerfs.
In Game 1, T1 failed to secure a single kill. The second game also ended decisively in your favor. Did you anticipate such dominating victories?
Canyon: I didn’t expect the matches to be this one-sided. Regardless of the outcome, I anticipated a tough battle, so winning 2-0 cleanly feels fantastic.
Lehends: I was cautiously optimistic and felt the odds were fifty-fifty. Our team’s strong focus in the early game allowed us to secure the wins.
How are you preparing for the upcoming games?
Canyon: With only a few matches left in the second round, we aim to win all of them.
Lehends: Despite today’s 2-0 victory, we will approach each game with full concentration and strive to have the last laugh.
Any message for your fans?
Canyon: Thank you for your unwavering support. We will continue to give our best to entertain you.
Lehends: Kiin promised a special pledge to the fans if we won 2-0 today. I’m excited to see that. We look forward to winning the next game in an entertaining fashion as well.
