HoYoverse, the publisher of Honkai: Star Rail, is set to invest a substantial $14.6 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) over the next three years.

As reported by GameLook (via GamingonPhoneBiz), this announcement was made during a private technology and recruitment session on May 15, aimed at master’s and doctoral students.

During the session, Liu Wei, the co-founder of HoYoverse, delineated the company’s extensive AI strategy and its shift towards internal AI development.

HoYoverse revealed its plans to establish an internal AI ecosystem, comprising GPU clusters, training systems, and application architecture, rather than solely relying on external AI models.

The company emphasized that AI will play a pivotal role in future game development, improving NPC systems, automation, content creation, and live-service environments. HoYoverse intends to leverage these tools in its upcoming life simulation game, Petit Planet, which will feature AI-driven NPCs.

Following Krafton’s lead, HoYoverse is embracing an AI-focused development approach. Last year, the South Korean publisher declared its ambition to transform into an “AI-first company.”

Krafton articulated its commitment to “prioritize AI as a central and primary solution” and to “drive transformation in individuals and organizations, boost overall productivity, and expedite long-term corporate value enhancement.”

This initiative encompassed a complete restructuring, a $69.7 million investment in a new GPU cluster, and an additional $20.8 million allocated towards retaining its workforce through AI tools.
