Google Play Launches “Buy Once, Play Anywhere” Feature Across PC and Mobile Games

Google Play has recently unveiled a new feature for certain PC and mobile games known as “buy once, play anywhere,” which essentially allows players to purchase a game once and play it on both their mobile device and PC. This feature was announced at GDC 2026 and officially launched today, offering a range of titles for players to enjoy across different devices. Additionally, Google Play has introduced Game Trials, enabling players to test out paid games before making a purchase.

Although Google Play currently hosts more free-to-play games than premium ones, the platform plans to expand its library with more premium titles in the near future.

While this feature is new to Google Play, it is not entirely unfamiliar to gamers. Similar to the ‘play anywhere’ concept on Google Play, Xbox games that have versions for both PC and console operate in the same manner, allowing players to access their Xbox library on either platform or through Cloud streaming, where applicable.

Although not all games support the ‘play anywhere’ model, this advancement is a significant benefit for the 160 million users engaging with games on Google Play. Players can now enjoy their paid titles on a larger screen, not limited to their mobile devices.

This development marks Google’s continued expansion in the gaming industry and signals potential growth for the Google Play store within the realm of PC gaming. The upcoming months will reveal which games will make their way to the Play Store.
