Gen.G Esports, after dominating the first match, clinched a thrilling comeback victory in the second, securing two crucial points.
Reflecting on the match, ‘Canyon’ remarked, “We executed Game 1 flawlessly; we emerged victorious with minimal errors. In Game 2, we encountered an early mishap during the dragon spawn due to a miscommunication with the bot lane. Despite falling behind, we managed to gather resources strategically, allowing us to stage a remarkable comeback.”
The mishap mentioned occurred when ‘Canyon’ was caught soloing the dragon, resulting in losing the objective and giving a kill to the opponent. When questioned about the communication breakdown, ‘Canyon’ explained, “Given the unfavorable trade in the top lane, it seemed probable that the enemy Trundle would make a play top. I informed the team that I would secure the dragon while the top laner unfortunately would have to sacrifice himself.”
He added, “Unlike the top lane, our bot lane had accumulated early kills and controlled the lane. However, assuming Trundle was top and all dragons were secured, they focused on pressuring the enemy bot lane instead of the dragon area. Unexpectedly, Trundle appeared bot, leading to an unintended catastrophe.”
Despite the challenging start in Game 2, Gen.G managed to turn the tables. Their success depended on minimizing losses and preventing the opponent from monopolizing dragon objectives. “Even though things went awry, we knew that by the next dragon spawn, our Ashe would have her core item, putting us on equal footing for a fight. We chose not to retreat. While we didn’t secure a significant advantage in that particular skirmish, we disrupted their dragon stacking, buying us time and laying the groundwork for our resurgence,” he explained.
Following a decisive teamfight victory, where they eliminated Jayce first, Gen.G swiftly pushed into the enemy base. Even from a spectator’s viewpoint, it was uncertain if they could close out the game, a sentiment ‘Canyon’ echoed. “Personally, as we hadn’t taken a single Voidgrub, I questioned our ability to finish. Luckily, everyone attacked the towers relentlessly, enabling us to secure the win,” he shared with a chuckle.
‘Canyon’ wrapped up the interview by expressing his determination: “While our performance has improved compared to the season’s start, I believe there are areas where we can enhance further. I’m concentrating on refining our practice regimen to elevate our gameplay. I’d say we’re operating at about 70-80% efficiency currently. I’ll give my all in the upcoming matches.”
