An individual shared their experience of three Ryzen 9800X3D CPUs failing within a short span of time on an ASRock 800-series motherboard.

Redditor Seeks RMA for Dead Ryzen 9800X3D on ASRock Motherboard, Encounters Multiple Failures Later

It can be quite disheartening to witness a costly processor repeatedly failing. While we’ve seen CPUs fail twice before, experiencing three failures is quite rare. The blame in most cases seems to fall on the motherboard, particularly those from ASRock. This new incident further confirms that the initial batch of ASRock 800-series motherboards is indeed problematic.

Reddit user u/notmember posted on the ASRock sub-Reddit that their AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D failed multiple times on the ASRock B850M PRO RS WiFi motherboard within a few months. The system was assembled in January 2025, and the processor failed in November 2025. While the initial failure was unexpected, subsequent failures followed in the coming months.

Following an RMA, they received a second Ryzen 7 9800X3D from AMD, only for it to fail again after around two months. Upon filing a third RMA, the processor barely lasted a month. As indicated in the screenshot, three Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs failed on the ASRock motherboard, pointing towards the B850M PRO RS WiFi as the likely culprit.

System built Jan ’25 and first CPU dead in Nov ’25 with CPU and DRAM lights on mobo(thought I was safe).

Second CPU dead only a couple of months later with CPU and DRAM lights again.

Third CPU dead with solid green BOOT light and no display(new symptom of dead CPU) just one month later with latest 4.X BIOS versions.

So my motherboard is not only a serial CPU killer but it seems to be killing them faster each time.

Decided that 3 dead CPUs was enough and bought a new mobo. So what to do with my killer board now? What will Asrock do if I try to RMA a functioning board? Send it back to me? Has anyone ever received a refund from Asrock for their killer boards?

While one might assume that the CPU failures were due to using outdated BIOS versions, the user claims to have regularly updated to the latest BIOS versions. The first failure occurred on BIOS 3.50, the second on BIOS 4.03, and the third on BIOS 4.07 beta, which was supposed to address CPU failures on ASRock motherboards. Despite shipping the AGESA 1.3.0.0a microcode with BETA BIOS 4.07, ASRock’s efforts were not sufficient to prevent CPU failure.

It is strongly advised to replace the motherboard if your CPU fails once on it, especially if it’s from ASRock and was purchased in early 2025. Owners of ASRock 800-series motherboards are urged to update to the latest BIOS version 4.10 to further reduce the risk of CPU failures.
