FaZe suffered a setback in their first series at Stake Ranked Episode 4 against Nemiga on 1 October, losing 2-0 in a closely contested match that slipped away from them on both maps. According to Dust2.us, FaZe now holds a 1-8 map record across their last four matches as they strive for a spot at the PGL Singapore Major.
HLTV also notes that FaZe and Astralis are both in danger of elimination after the event’s first day. The defeat is particularly damaging for FaZe’s Major aspirations as it came at the hands of one of their main competitors for an invitation.
FaZe Loses Grip on Mirage despite a 12-8 Lead
The Mirage map will likely haunt FaZe the most. Starting on the CT side, they dominated with a 9-3 lead and maintained a 12-8 advantage after switching to T. However, they couldn’t secure another round. Nemiga rallied, forcing overtime with four consecutive wins and ultimately clinching the map in extra time after an eight-round streak. According to Dust2.us, Kirill “Xant3r” Kononov shone on Mirage with 26 kills and an impressive 1.51 rating, the best performance on the map.
Xant3r’s Crucial Plays Secure Ancient with a 13-11 Victory
The Ancient map also started well for FaZe, with a 3-0 lead on the CT side. However, Nemiga responded by winning seven of the next eight rounds, leaving FaZe trailing by two rounds at the half despite a brief comeback. In the second half, Nemiga secured the first three rounds on CT, reaching double digits before FaZe fought back with three consecutive rounds. Nevertheless, Nemiga managed to close out the map 13-11, with Nikita “robo” Dushin leading the charge with 23 kills and a 1.43 rating, as reported by Dust2.us.
Throughout the series, robo stood out with 43 kills, while Xant3r and Daniel “syph0” Ageyev both boasted a 1.25 rating. Among the FaZe players, Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken was the sole player with a positive kill-death ratio, finishing with a 1.12 rating from his 39-36 scoreline. Ryan “Neityu” Aubry and Jason “JBOEN” Boe Nielsen both had a 0.91 rating. David “frozen” Čerňanský scored 0.81, and Jakub “jcobbb” Pietruszewski ended at the bottom of the scoreboard with a 0.80 rating.
With no room for error left, FaZe now moves to the lower bracket where they face Astralis on 2 October. Both teams lost their opening matches on the first day of the event, meaning the loser of this upcoming match will be eliminated, cutting short their journey towards the Singapore Major, according to HLTV.
