Mumbai has solidified its position as a growing force in the digital economy after the conclusion of the Global Esports Games (GEG) 2026 World Finals.
Held at the MMRDA Grounds, the event showcased 48 top athletes from 19 countries competing for international glory in DOTA 2 and Clash Royale.
Organized by Eflag Corp and the Global Esports Federation (GEF) with backing from Maharashtra Tourism, the tournament marked the first instance of the prestigious GEG World Finals being hosted in South Asia.
Team India Emerges Victorious in Clash Royale
The local fans had much to cheer for as Team India’s Anuhith Gosala secured a historic gold medal in Clash Royale.
In an intense Grand Final, Gosala triumphed over Kazakhstan with a 3–2 win.
India’s path to the top was a testament to resilience; after a close defeat to Kazakhstan in the upper bracket finals, the Indian team fought back through the lower bracket to claim redemption on the main stage.
With this gold and a bronze in DOTA 2, Team India topped the overall medal standings for the event.
Türkiye Dominates DOTA 2 Finals
In the DOTA 2 arena, Team Türkiye proved to be unbeatable.
Following a flawless group stage where they remained undefeated against teams like South Africa and Argentina, Türkiye continued their momentum into the knockout rounds.
The Grand Final pitted Türkiye against a strong Mongolia team.
Despite a valiant effort from Mongolia, Türkiye’s superior macro-strategy and team coordination led them to a 3–1 victory, securing the gold medal and the championship trophy.
A “Giant Step Forward” for Global Esports
The event was officially opened by Maharashtra’s Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, who highlighted India’s rapid growth in the AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) sector.
The GEG Mumbai finals also revealed a significant announcement: global film icon Jackie Chan has been appointed as the official Ambassador of the Global Esports Games.
His designation signifies a major effort by the GEF to bridge the gap between traditional entertainment and competitive gaming.
The Path to Los Angeles 2026
As the lights dimmed at the Global Esports Arena Mumbai (GEAM), attention turned towards the future.
The GEF confirmed an ambitious 10-year strategic partnership with India to further develop the nation’s digital infrastructure and talent pool.
The ceremonial flag handover officially marked the end of the Mumbai games, with the movement now heading to North America.
The next destination for the world’s top national teams will be the Los Angeles 2026 Global Esports Games, set for December 2026.
